A Call for Submissions

Before we move on to the business at hand, just a quick word on Daniel’s last post:

I completely agree with him on Breaking Bad. It’s the best show on TV right now that you’re not watching. (Unless you haven't been watching LOST. Then that's the best.) And the best part is that there have only been 21 total episodes in the series so far. So if you’re not watching it yet, start now. If you’re as “motivated” as we are, you can be completely caught up in 3-4 days.

As for Friday Night Lights…I stopped watching it when the dorky kid at the school killed a guy with a shovel. Daniel’s told me it’s gotten better since then. I’ll just have to take his word for it.

Now on to The Couchwarmers’ first ever interactive post:

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! In the spirit of March Madness, Daniel and I are organizing our own bracket. With such strokes of genius as Name of the Year and Cake vs. Pie already taken, we've decided to do a bracket of the greatest inventions ever, mostly because -- and I quote Daniel here -- "having the printing press take on the condom in Round 1 would be a good matchup."

So this gives us 2 automatic qualifiers, one from the mighty Literacy Conference and the other from the much smaller Prophylactic League. This leaves us with somewhere between 14 and 63 remaining entries into the field. This is where you come in.

We're looking for audience submissions. We already have some ideas for other field entries, but just so we don't miss anything important, we're looking for some help. If you want, post ideas in the comments. Or even better, send them to, if only for the added element of surprise entrants when the matchups come out. Over the next few days, Daniel and I will come up with a bracket. Then the fun begins.

  1. Condoms vs. printing press in the 1st round? That deserves to be a regional final, at least. It's almost as bad as Jay Bilas thought matching up Cornell and Temple was.

  2. First of all, the best show on tv that your not watching is either Lie to Me or White Collar. Second of all, you should put in the Polio Vaccine vs. a Condom in the first round. Use the printing press for something else.

  3. I think snuggie is a perfect 12 seed. Definitely the underdog, but with powerful upset potential.

Other options, based mostly on things I see looking around my apartment: HD Tv vs. Regular TV (not comparing the devices, just the innovation), recliners, the microwave, Tivo, and, oh, I don't know, that escalator thing for your shopping cart that they use at department stores that lets you take your cart up and down.

  4. Boo you kubin. condom v printing press is no first rounder. i completely agree with alexander, regional final at least. i mean the printing press created the gutenburg bible, the first mass released book. and condoms, well they changed sex forever. it would be a crying shame if these two had to face off in the first round

  5. The Condom as a #1 seed is akin to Kansas this year in the NCAA tournament: Way overrated and breaks under pressure.
