Weekend Recap, Now with Creepy Child Art

Welcome back for another work week, loyal readers. Before you can even ask -- yes, the rumors are true. We have a Facebook fan page now. If you love America, you'll join.

For those of you who are upset about having to start another week of work/school, here's something that's sure to put a smile on your face:

On to the weekend recap:

(BEGIN HOCKEY DISCUSSION)

I hope you guys took my advice to heart, and caught at least some of the Rangers-Flyers game yesterday afternoon. In a previous post, I promised fighting, hard hits, and players laying their bodies on the line. Check, check, and check. For those of you who didn't watch (I'm guessing that's most of you), the game ended up going to a shootout with the Flyers ultimately winning 2-1.

As a Rangers fan, I should have been upset about this. But when the game ended, I found myself strangely apathetic. It's probably partly because after what happened last weekend, I can't really be upset about anything sports-related right now. It's also due to me knowing that the Rangers weren't a good team anyway. They had huge flaws that were partially masked in the standings by an outstanding goalie and one all-star scorer; without Lundqvist and Gaborik, there's a good chance the Rangers would have been the worst team in the league. Plus, if the Rangers had won, they would have had to play the Washington Capitals, the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference, in the first round. This would have been an absolute bloodbath.

Look at it this way: the Rangers were the wounded animal, lying crippled in the middle of the road. The Flyers were the guy who came upon it and decided to put it out of its misery. Washington was the group of kids who was going to ride by a few minutes later on a utility cart and start poking it with sticks and throwing rocks at it. Either way, the Rangers were done. This just made it quick and painless.

(END HOCKEY DISCUSSION)

When the game was over, I was able to flip to CBS and catch the final 4 holes of The Masters. Congratulations to Phil "Jiggles" Mickelson on his 3rd Green Jacket. A few more and he'll have enough fabric for a full-sized manssiere.

Later on, I caught the "Insects" Episode of Life on the Discovery Channel. Some of the coolest footage I've ever seen, especially the parts about the monarch butterflies and the grass-cutter ants. Check it out if you've got the chance.

Also, if you haven't been having enough nightmares recently, make sure you take a look at this. It'll haunt your dreams, but in a good way.

Tonight at 10PM on the Discovery Channel, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations travels to the great state of Maine. As someone who has spent 9 summers of my life there, I've decided to make odds for what kinds of things he might eat/drink:

Lobster (any): 1-20
Lobster Roll: 1-1
Local Microbrew: 3-2
Clam Chowder: 5-2
Whoopie Pie: 3-1
Blueberries: 5-1
Maple Syrup: 5-1
Ice Cream: 7-1
Moxie: 13-1
Moose: 18-1
Loon: 45-1
Buffalo Chicken Bomb from the General Store: 200-1

Lastly, the Invention Bracket Final Four will go up sometime tonight. Keep checking back.

  1. Yeah, those kids pics are scary as crap. I think "Good Man" is my favorite, followed closely by melting Wonder Woman.
